Mr. and Mrs. North
(1952) Jerry (Richard Denning) and Pamela North (Barbara Britton) live in Greenwich Village in New York City. Jerry is a mystery magazine publisher who thinks he is a good amateur detective. He and his wife investigate various crimes and solve them before the police do.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
(1954-'55) The adventures of master detective Sherlock Holmes (Ronald Howard) as he and his assistant, Dr. Watson (H. Marion-Crawford) and, somewhat reluctantly, the bumbling Inspector Lestrade (Archie Duncan) battle criminals in London.
The Lawless Years
(1959) Follows Barney Ruditsky (played by James Gregory), a plainclothes police detective in New York City during the 1920's. The show was loosely based on the real life Ruditsky who was a New York police officer during the period.
Decoy
(1957) Beverly Garland plays an undercover police woman in this syndicated cop series that was filmed in New York City. Casey Jones' assignment to fight crime often entails her going undercover in some of the seediest and most dangerous parts of the city.
Racket Squad
This police drama that exposes confidence rackets debuted on June 7, 1951, and ran until Sep. 28, 1953. Actual police cases describe how shady characters fleece unsuspecting people of their money. Reed Hadley stars as Capt. John Braddock, who both introduces each story and plays a part.
Dragnet
(1951-59) "The story you are about to see is true..." "Just the facts, ma'am..." "We were working the day watch..." Sgt. Joe Friday (Jack Webb) and his partners methodically investigate crimes in Los Angeles. The show emphasized careful police work and the interweaving of policemen's professional and personal lives.
